Core Capabilities

Six Capabilities in One 50 g Wearable Alarm

Area monitors stay at the perimeter, and passive badges are read back hours after the shift. The LSJ SEED-RA closes both gaps: a CsI(Tl) + SiPM detector that measures X and gamma dose rate continuously and alarms the wearer in under five seconds.

CAPABILITY 01

Laboratory-Grade Detection Physics in a Pocket-Size Body

The SEED-RA pairs a thallium-doped caesium iodide (CsI(Tl)) scintillation crystal with a silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) — the detection chain of a laboratory counter, reduced to a body that clips onto a vest. It measures X and gamma dose rate from 0.01 μSv/h to 100 mSv/h, tracks cumulative dose to 9999 mSv, and holds relative intrinsic error within ±15% at the Cs-137 reference.

  • CsI(Tl) scintillator + SiPM; energy response from 30 keV to 3 MeV for X and gamma rays
  • Energy response error within ±20%, relative intrinsic error within ±15% at Cs-137
  • Dose rate 0.01 μSv/h – 100 mSv/h; cumulative dose 0.01 μSv – 9999 mSv
CAPABILITY 02

A 50 g Clip-On That Disappears on the Uniform

At no more than 95 × 30 × 20 mm and 50 g including the battery, the unit is wearable-sized rather than a handheld survey meter. The ultrasonic integrated body keeps the exterior smooth and sealed, and the front face carries the live dose display, the radiation trefoil and three green status LEDs that confirm normal operation from across the room.

  • 95 × 30 × 20 mm and 50 g including battery — belt, vest strap or pocket
  • IP67 sealed housing: dust-tight and waterproof, with no open port on the body
  • Front display with battery gauge plus three green status LEDs for at-a-glance confirmation

CAPABILITY 03

Audible, Visual and Phone Alarms on the Same Event

When dose rate rises above standard levels, the SEED-RA sounds an audible alarm and raises its LED visual alarm. It then relays the same event to the wearer’s mobile phone over Bluetooth, so a supervisor pairing each team member’s device sees an over-standard situation even when the detector itself is hidden under protective clothing or inside a pocket.

  • Alarm response under 5 seconds, as fast as 2 seconds depending on energy level
  • Three channels — audible, visual and mobile-phone relay — so one blocked path never silences the warning
  • Bluetooth pairing mirrors every alarm to the wearer’s handset for the supervisor to act on
CAPABILITY 04

Over 100 Hours of Standby, Charged Through the Base

A low-power-consumption design keeps the SEED-RA on standby for more than 100 hours on a single charge — over four days of continuous readiness. Recharging runs through the magnetic charging contacts on the base: nothing to plug in with gloves on, and no connector for dust or water to attack. Between shifts the unit goes back on the charger and returns to full readiness.

  • More than 100 hours standby on one charge, from a low-power-consumption circuit
  • Magnetic charging contacts on the base — no open charging port on the housing
  • Rechargeable between shifts, so the unit starts every tour at full readiness

CAPABILITY 05

Ready in Four Steps, Before You Cross the Line

Deployment is deliberately short: clip on, power on, pair by Bluetooth, work hands-free. The SEED-RA logs cumulative dose continuously from that moment, so the personal record starts when the operator enters the area rather than at the debrief.

  • Clip on — the integrated rear clip fixes the unit to a belt, vest strap or pocket before entry
  • Power on — three green LEDs confirm normal operation and the display shows live background dose rate
  • Pair by Bluetooth and work hands-free while cumulative dose is logged continuously
CAPABILITY 06

What a Wearable Alarm Adds to the Badge a Team Already Carries

The comparison procurement teams ask for first: a badge proves exposure after the shift, an alarm prevents it. On the operating principles stated on this page the SEED-RA alarms in under five seconds and reads live dose on the device, while a passive dosimeter records only and is read back at base.

  • Real-time alarm when dose rises: SEED-RA yes, under 5 seconds — passive dosimeter records only
  • Live dose-rate reading on the device rather than a read-back at base hours later
  • Cumulative dose to 9999 mSv logged continuously on the unit through the shift
  • Alarm relayed to a mobile phone over Bluetooth, which a passive badge cannot do

Applications

Where the SEED-RA Goes to Work

Personal radiation alarms are worn by emergency rescue and hazmat crews, radiological survey teams, nuclear facility maintenance staff and screening officers at borders, ports and venues.

LSJ SEED-RA sounding its audible and visual alarm during a hazardous-material response

Emergency Rescue and Hazmat Response

In an accident where the substance is still unknown, rescuers use the SEED-RA to monitor the site surroundings, judge the intensity and dose of any released radioactive material, and assess risk to people and environment before the response plan is fixed. The alarm also reaches the wearer’s phone, so a supervisor standing back from the scene sees the same warning.

LSJ SEED-RA carried into a suspected contaminated outdoor area during a radiological survey

Radiological Environment Inspection

Survey teams walking a suspected contaminated area carry a per-person, continuous dose record instead of perimeter-only readings, and are warned the moment the dose rate rises. Readings describe the position and moment sampled at the wearer only; they do not replace survey procedure, wipe testing or laboratory analysis.

LSJ SEED-RA clipped on for a shift inside a nuclear facility or screening point

Nuclear Plant Monitoring and Security Screening

Maintenance crews working near active systems wear immediate alarm coverage with cumulative dose logging to 9999 mSv, and supervisors receive alarms over Bluetooth relay. The same clip-on suits officers screening cargo, vehicles or venues, where it alarms the instant radiation above standard levels appears without occupying a hand.

Operational Scenario

Damaged Source Store: An Illustrative Deployment

The scenario below illustrates how the SEED-RA may support an entry decision. It is not a documented customer case study.

Illustrative pre-entry dose-rate check on the LSJ SEED-RA display

Example: Pre-Entry Check Outside a Damaged Source Store

Situation

A workshop that stores industrial radiography sources has been damaged in a fire. The incident commander cannot confirm whether the sources are still shielded, and the entry decision has to be taken before a survey team can bring a full instrument into the yard.

Potential use

A responder could clip a SEED-RA to a vest strap, power it on and pair it to a phone before approaching, reading live dose rate from 0.01 μSv/h upward on the display and relying on the under-five-second alarm if the reading climbs. Cumulative dose is logged from that moment. Readings describe the position and atmosphere at the wearer only; the unit does not locate or identify a source, and it does not replace a survey meter, a dosimetry service or the radiological protection officer’s procedure.

Decision support

Findings may inform where the cordon is placed, who may approach, and how long a task inside the area may run under the protection officer’s rules, with the logged cumulative dose supporting the post-incident record. Outcomes depend on source energy, shielding, distance, detector orientation and operator training.

Frequently Asked Questions

Procurement and Field Use

Answers to the questions radiation safety officers and procurement teams ask before ordering. Confirm all commercial and technical terms with the supplier.

Which radiation types does the SEED-RA detect, and with what technology?

It detects X-rays and gamma rays using a CsI(Tl) scintillation crystal coupled to a silicon photomultiplier (SiPM). Energy response spans 30 keV to 3 MeV with energy response error within ±20%, and relative intrinsic error within ±15% at the Cs-137 reference source. Detection is specified for X and gamma radiation only — no alpha, beta or neutron response is stated by the manufacturer.

What dose ranges can the SEED-RA measure?

The dose-rate range is 0.01 μSv/h to 100 mSv/h and the cumulative dose range is 0.01 μSv to 9999 mSv, as quoted in the manufacturer’s specification table. The lower bound resolves natural background levels and the upper bound covers serious radiological incidents. Note that the same page’s summary cards read “0.01–100 μSv/h”; ask the factory to confirm which upper bound applies to your configuration before the instrument enters service.

How fast does the SEED-RA respond to a radiation change?

Response time is under 5 seconds and can be as fast as 2 seconds depending on the energy level. That rapid response is what turns the unit from a dosimeter into an alarm: the wearer is warned while the exposure is still avoidable.

How does the SEED-RA alert the wearer?

Through three channels: an audible alarm, a visual alarm on the device’s LEDs, and a mobile-phone alarm relayed over Bluetooth. The wearer hears the device, sees its indicators, and receives the alarm on the paired handset — so protective clothing or a pocket over the detector does not silence the warning.

How long does the battery last, and how is the unit charged?

Standby time is over 100 hours thanks to a low-power-consumption design. The SEED-RA is rechargeable through the magnetic charging contacts on its base, with no open ports on the housing.

Is the SEED-RA suitable for harsh field conditions?

The housing is rated IP67 — dust-tight and waterproof — and the unit operates from −20 °C to 50 °C at relative humidity up to 95% (at 30 °C, non-condensing). That covers outdoor rescue and industrial environments; confirm any additional requirement such as drop rating or ATEX classification with the factory.

Who manufactures the SEED-RA, and how can I order it?

It is manufactured by Beijing LSJ Technology Development Co., Ltd., Floors 3 to 17, Building 5, Courtyard 1, Hangfeng Road, Fengtai District, Beijing, China. Contact the factory at [email protected], or by phone and WeChat at +86 19388919457 (WhatsApp +1 8402841651), for pricing, OEM configurations and bulk supply.
