Description

Core Capabilities

A 384 × 288 Detector in a 600 g Handset

The E384 is the mid-resolution model in the LSJ hand-held range: a 384 × 288 long-wave detector, a 3.5-inch display, manual focus and Wi-Fi, in a body the manufacturer lists at 600 g. It is built for scheduled inspection rounds rather than laboratory work.

CAPABILITY 01

A 3.5-Inch Display and Manual Focus

The body carries a 3.5-inch full-angle TFT display driven by a 640 × 480 LCD, with a four-way keypad, a return key and a select key under the screen. Focus is set by hand on the lens rather than by motors, so the operator decides where the plane of focus sits — useful when the target is a terminal block behind a grille and the camera cannot be brought square to it.

  • 384 × 288 infrared resolution on a 3.5-inch full-angle TFT display
  • 640 × 480 LCD; four-way keypad plus return and select keys
  • Manual focus on the lens, no autofocus motor
CAPABILITY 02

25 Hz or 50 Hz, Wi-Fi On Board

The specification table lists the frame rate as 25 Hz/50 Hz without saying which version ships as standard, so confirm it on the quotation. Wi-Fi is supported, files are written as JPG to 8 GB of internal memory, and the manufacturer's own graphic for this model also lists photo and video recording, PC image analysis, and a high and low temperature alarm — functions that do not appear as rows in the specification table.

  • Frame rate listed as 25 Hz/50 Hz — confirm the variant before ordering
  • Wi-Fi support; built-in 8 GB storage, JPG file format

CAPABILITY 03

1.3 mrad: What 384 × 288 Resolves at Range

A 13 mm lens gives 28.4° × 21.4° of field with a 1.3 mrad instantaneous field of view on a 12 µm pixel pitch. Read as geometry, one pixel covers roughly 13 mm at 10 m and 4 mm at 3 m, which is the number that decides whether a single lug or a whole panel is the smallest thing you can measure from where you can stand.

  • 28.4° × 21.4° field of view, 13 mm focal length
  • 1.3 mrad IFOV on a 12 µm pixel pitch
  • One pixel ≈ 13 mm at 10 m, ≈ 4 mm at 3 m
CAPABILITY 04

Five Palettes, Emissivity from 0.01 to 1.0

Rainbow, iron oxide red, cold colour, white hot and black hot are selectable; emissivity is adjustable across the full 0.01–1.0 range, which is what makes a reading on painted steel, oxidised copper or bare aluminium defensible at all. Thermal sensitivity is stated as ≤ 40 mK at 25 °C and F/1.0, and the detector works across 8–14 µm.

CAPABILITY 05

−20 °C to 550 °C, Stated at ±3 %

One range covers −20 °C to 550 °C (−4 °F to 1022 °F): cold-store walls and outdoor pipework at one end, exhaust manifolds, engines and distribution equipment at the other. The published accuracy is ±3 %, given as a percentage of reading only — no ±°C figure and no accuracy-versus-range split is stated, so ask for the calibration certificate before you write it into a tender.

  • Measuring range −20 °C to 550 °C / −4 °F to 1022 °F
  • Accuracy quoted as ±3 % of reading, with no ±°C figure published
  • Single range, no manual range switch listed
CAPABILITY 06

600 g, 8 GB and Four Menu Languages

Files are JPG written to 8 GB of internal memory and taken off over Micro USB 2.0. The settings menu covers unit, language, date, time and device information, with Chinese, English, German and Italian available — enough to issue the same camera to crews working to different local conventions. The manufacturer's table does not state battery type, runtime, IP rating or operating temperature, so those four items need confirming before a fleet order.

  • 600 g body; 8 GB internal memory, JPG files
  • Micro USB 2.0 for power and data
  • Battery, runtime, IP rating and operating temperature: to be confirmed

Applications

Where a 384 × 288 Handset Earns Its Place

The manufacturer documents three duties for this model — car inspection, underfloor heating tests and circuit testing. The same body also serves maintenance contractors, electrical inspectors, building surveyors and HVAC companies. Thermal imaging reads surface temperature: it is an inspection aid and supports, but does not replace, established test and entry procedures.

Supplier montage headed Wide range of product applications with six labelled panels: underfloor heating and hot water pipes, distribution box, automotive, motor equipment, motor and power fault detection

Six Duties on One Handset

Underfloor heating loops, distribution boxes, automotive faults, motor windings, motor drives and power equipment appear as temperature anomalies first. The panels above are the manufacturer's own selection of duties for this model, not measured results from a customer site.

Automotive and Fleet Work

Engine faults, cooling-system behaviour and exhaust problems show as heat before they show as a warning light. Scanning the bay with the engine running turns a symptom into a picture — the manufacturer lists this as the first documented use of the model.

Electrical and Distribution Rounds

Overloaded circuits, loose terminations and failing components heat up long before they fail. Scanning switchgear, distribution boards and motor drives on a scheduled round makes the fault visible while the plant is still running, and the alarm on the manufacturer's function list means the round no longer depends on the operator watching the display the whole time.

Operational Scenario

A Night Survey on a Clad Facade: An Illustrative Deployment

The scenario below illustrates how the E384 may support a survey team. It is not a documented customer case study, and the readings in it are illustrative rather than measured.

Surveyor in a high-visibility jacket and helmet standing at a clad facade, holding the imager up to read surface temperature across the panels

Example: Locating a Cold Bridge Behind Cladding

Situation

A maintenance team is asked why one bay of a clad building stays cold and why condensation collects along a single vertical line. There are no drawings of the fixing pattern, the wall cannot be opened during operating hours, and the survey has to be done after dark so that stored heat from the sun does not mask the difference across the panels.

Potential use

An operator could walk the bay with the E384 at a steady distance, using the iron oxide red or rainbow palette to separate warm panel faces from the cooler line along the fixings, and the manual focus to hold the cladding plane sharp as the distance changes. Emissivity would be set to suit the coated metal rather than left at the default, and readings quoted as ±3 % of reading. The camera measures surface temperature only: it cannot see behind the cladding, into a cavity, or through a wall.

Decision support

What appears on the display may inform where an inspection opening is cut, where a thermal break is added, and in what order the bays are re-surveyed. Interpretation depends on the coating, the wind, the time since sunset and the operator's training, and it sits alongside — not instead of — the moisture readings and drawings that normally settle a defect claim.

Frequently Asked Questions

Procurement and Deployment

Answers to the questions distributors, maintenance contractors and inspection buyers ask most often. Confirm all commercial and technical terms with the supplier.

What detector and lens does the E384 use?

A 384 × 288 long-wave detector in the 8–14 µm band, on a 12 µm pixel pitch, behind a 13 mm lens giving 28.4° × 21.4° of field and a 1.3 mrad IFOV. Thermal sensitivity is stated as ≤ 40 mK at 25 °C and F#1.0, and the frame rate is published as 25 Hz/50 Hz without stating which version ships as standard.

What temperature range and accuracy are quoted?

−20 °C to 550 °C, which is −4 °F to 1022 °F, in a single range with no manual range switch listed. Accuracy is published as ±3 %, given as a percentage of reading only: there is no ±°C figure and no split by temperature band, so request the calibration certificate and the test method before writing an accuracy figure into a tender.

Which palettes and emissivity settings are available?

Five palettes are listed — rainbow, iron oxide red, cold colour, white hot and black hot — and emissivity is adjustable across 0.01 to 1.0, which is what allows readings on painted steel, oxidised copper and bare aluminium to be defended. The menu also carries unit, language, date, time and device information settings, in Chinese, English, German and Italian.

How are images stored and moved off the camera?

Files are written as JPG to 8 GB of built-in memory. They leave the camera over Micro USB 2.0 or by Wi-Fi, and the manufacturer's own graphic for this model also lists photo and video recording, PC image analysis, and a high and low temperature alarm — functions that do not appear as rows in the specification table, so treat them as features to confirm rather than as documented values.

What is missing from the published specification?

Battery type and runtime, protection rating, operating and storage temperature, drop resistance and warranty terms are all absent from the manufacturer's table for the E384. The camera weighs 600 g. Ask the supplier for those figures in writing, together with the calibration interval and the accessory list, before a fleet order.

Who manufactures the E384, and can volume orders be supported?

LSJ designs and manufactures the instrument; the company materials supplied with this page cite 16 years of manufacturing experience and list CE, ISO, MSDS and RoHS documentation. Product-specific certificates, distributor terms, OEM/ODM options and quantity pricing are quoted per market — send the volumes, the destination country and the documentation your tender requires.
